Professors Guojun Chen, Mahsa Dadar and Phoebe Friesen – all members of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences – win President’s Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers

Three �鶹ɫ��Ƭ scholars were recognized with the 2025 President’s Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers at the Health Sciences Convocation Ceremony on May 27. The award honours exceptional early-career researchers whose work is expanding the frontiers of knowledge in their fields.

Neuroscientist Alan Evans and music performance scholar Michael McMahon among �鶹ɫ��Ƭ community members recognized for exceptional accomplishments and service

Nine members of the �鶹ɫ��Ƭ community have been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.

Among the honorees are two �鶹ɫ��Ƭ faculty members, Professors Alan Evans (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Michael McMahon (Schulich School of Music).

A project led by Ziv Gan-Or, MD, PhD, at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) of �鶹ɫ��Ƭ and Martine Tétreault, PhD, at Université de Montréal has received more than $8 million to sequence the genomes of 8,700 people, to map the role of genetics in neurological disorders.

While controlling swelling is important, a new study shows that a commonly prescribed anti-swelling drug suppresses the immune system for weeks after dosage, inhibiting the body’s ability to fight the cancer.
