 Writing a scientific paper that is actually read\, understood\, and eventu
 ally has an impact can be challenging\, particularly for an interdisciplin
 ary audience. Following an introduction to the journal One Earth\, this ta
 lk will provide guidance to help shape a clear and coherent scientific nar
 rative that conveys what motivated your research\, how it was carried out\
 , what was found\, and why it is important. Once a paper is written\, the 
 next step is to get it published in an appropriate journal so that your fi
 ndings reach and influence your target audience. This is easier said than 
 done given the ever-expanding landscape of scientific journals. This talk 
 will therefore also provide advice on how to select a journal while provid
 ing insight into the editorial black box.\n
